Information Technology General Use Policies

WINGsReality EDU (WR EDU) provides students, faculty, and staff with Information Technologies (IT) to support learning, discovery, and service. Use of WR EDU IT resources is a privilege, not a right, and abuses of WR EDU IT General User Policies may result in the loss of privileges.

Authorized Users

Use of WINGsReality EDU IT resources is limited to WR EDU faculty, staff, currently enrolled students, alumni, and authorized guests.

Scope

The following User Policy applies to all students, faculty, and staff who use any WR EDU IT resource including individual workstations, the campus network, email, file and application servers, Learning Management Systems (Moodle, etc.), WordPress, or any other program or resource that is owned by or is part of the WR EDU system.

IT General User Policies

  1. Users shall be issued accounts for the systems to which they are authorized, and the user accounts will remain active for the period the individual is either employed or enrolled, in good standing, at WR EDU. 

  2. Proper use of accounts and resources is the responsibility of the individual to whom it has been assigned. The sharing of user accounts with others is strictly prohibited, and all users are required at all time to prevent others from accessing their passwords or other account information.  Users are required to change their passwords when there is any suspicion of account theft. 

  3. The unauthorized use of someone else’s account shall be considered theft and computer fraud.  Users shall not attempt to gain unauthorized access to any IT system.

  4. WR EDU IT resources are to be used only for WR EDU related purposes.   Unauthorized personal use or use that interferes with authorized WR EDU use is prohibited.  Personal use that creates a direct cost to WR EDU is also prohibited.

  5. WR EDU IT resources shall not be used for on-going commercial purposes.

  6. Use of IT resources as prohibited by State and/or Federal Law is prohibited.

  7. Electronic records and email stored on WR EDU systems are subject to State and Federal Privacy Acts as well as Freedom of Information Acts.  WR EDU systems should not be regarded as secure modes for storing or communicating sensitive or confidential information. 

  8. Student, employee, and financial information relating to WR EDU and its students, employees, and faculty is considered confidential and made available to employees or contractors solely for the performance of official WR EDU duties. Employees and contractors shall protect the privacy and confidentiality of student, employee, and financial information to which they have access and shall not access student, employee, or financial information unless such access is required for the performance of their official duties.

  9. Users shall respect intellectual property rights of WR EDU and its employees and contractors, and shall not access or use IT resources in violation of Copyright and Trademark Laws. 

  10. Users shall respect the privacy of others and shall not use IT resources to spam, intimidate, harass, or stalk.

  11. Users shall not use WR EDU IT resources for viewing or developing inappropriate or off-subject materials. 

  12. Users shall not introduce any malicious programs such as viruses, worms, Trojan horses, etc., or use any software or system to interfere with the normal and safe operation of any WR EDU or non-WR EDU IT resource.

  13. Users shall not load or attempt to load any programs onto any WR EDU system.

  14. Users shall cooperate with WR EDU employees conducting authorized investigations of suspected violations of WR EDU Policies.  WR EDU shall investigate allegations of inappropriate use of its systems and resources, and may take immediate action to protect its systems and resources when deemed such actions are appropriate and in the best interests of WR EDU.

  15. Users of the WINGsReality EDU IT systems agree to hold WINGsReality EDU LLC and WINGsReality EDU harmless for any damages or costs related to the use of these systems.

 

Violation of WR EDU IT General User Policies

  1. Users who violate WR EDU’s IT Policies may lose their privileges without notice, and shall not be eligible for any compensation or refund of any monies paid for the services of WR EDU, nor any qualifications, certifications, or endorsements associated with WR EDU services.

  2. Any user who is found in violation of these user policies will be held liable for any and all damages and costs, including punitive damages, to WINGsReality EDU LLC.
